Gettysburg College among "best values," Kiplinger's magazine says

Gettysburg College is one of the "best values" among American private liberal arts colleges, according to Kiplinger's Personal Finance magazine.

Gettysburg is among institutions "that deliver a high-quality education at an affordable price," the magazine reported this fall, when it released its list for 2010-11.

The magazine analyzes data from 600 institutions before choosing 100 liberal arts colleges and 100 private universities with graduate programs. "Our lists exclude schools that do not meet our criteria for academic quality and affordability," the magazine said on its website.

Gettysburg College ranked 57th overall. The magazine said it bases its rankings "on measurable criteria, such as student-faculty ratios, admission rates, on-time graduation rate, sticker price and financial aid. Neither our opinion nor anyone else's affects the calculation." See Gettysburg's statistics.

The Kiplinger Letter, launched in 1923, remains the longest continually published newsletter in the United States. In 1947, Kiplinger's created the nation's first personal finance magazine.

Founded in 1832, Gettysburg College is a highly selective four-year residential college of liberal arts and sciences with a strong academic tradition that includes Rhodes Scholars, a Nobel laureate and other distinguished scholars among its alumni. The college enrolls 2,600 undergraduate students and is located on a 200-acre campus adjacent to the Gettysburg National Military Park in Pennsylvania.
